Our Tea
Wild Card Roasters brings the same attention to quality and craftsmanship we apply to coffee to our selection of premium teas. Our teas are carefully selected for flavor, aroma, character, and quality, with offerings sourced from renowned tea-producing regions in China, Japan, Taiwan, India, and Sri Lanka.
Through Weaver’s Coffee & Tea, our consumer brand, we offer a selection of loose leaf teas and tea bags for tea drinkers who value quality and distinctive flavor.
Experience in Tea Tasting and Selection
John Weaver developed his knowledge of tea tasting and selection while working with Alfred Peet and Sal Bonavita. That experience helped shape an approach to tea based on tasting, quality, and understanding the characteristics that distinguish exceptional teas.
Just as with coffee, origin alone does not determine quality. Tea can vary considerably from one harvest and lot to another, which makes careful selection essential.
What Makes a Quality Tea?
We pay particular attention to two factors that have a significant influence on the finished tea: plucking style and processing technique.
Plucking determines which leaves and buds are harvested, while processing influences the aroma, flavor, color, and character those leaves ultimately develop. Growing region, season, weather, and harvest conditions can also create meaningful differences from one lot to the next.
By evaluating the tea itself rather than relying solely on origin or estate, we can select teas for the qualities that matter most in the cup.
